The Music Basement is a modern space for music lovers and professional musicians, for communication and self-expression.
Collection
The Basement has a collection of 7,000 vinyl records with Russian and foreign rock and pop music, jazz, opera, folk music, and literary recordings. We keep buying new vinyl all the time.
We also have a substantial collection of music-related books and sheet music, including rare editions from mid-19th — early 20th century.
The Music Basement houses only a fraction of the library's music collection. The bulk of it — 36,000 musical scores and 70,000 vinyl records — is kept in Nosov's Mansion. The collection is mostly aimed at researchers, primarily in the field of classical music, and open for everyone.
Facilities
Books, scores, and most records are available for checkout. Items from Nosov's Mansion can be delivered to the Music Basement the next day upon request.
Records can be played in the Basement on our players with headphones. In our soundproof rooms, visitors can listen to records and CDs without headphones, and play the digital piano.
You can also watch music videos and concert records on the big screen.
Our most important facility is the music studio, where you can use the synthesizer, electronic drums, and electric guitar to record music.
Visitors have to sign up and pay to use the music studio. For signing up you need to call +7 499 670-80-01 (ext. 458) or send an email to or come to the Music Basement and book it on the spot.
Events
The Basement hosts lectures, workshops, club meetings, and educational events.
At special events, you can listen to music on our retro players: gramophone, cassette and tape recorders, and mini-disc player.
For those interested in antique instruments, we have a late 19th century pump organ. It's an art object today, but soon we'll make it work!
