Comics Collection

RSLYA's public comics collection is the first and largest in Russia. The collection was started in the 1980s, when the Embassy of France donated 230 original French bandes dessinées.

The first Comics and Visual Culture Centre in Russia was established in RSLYA in 2010, which contributed to the development of the comics collection. Today we have around 3300 items in Russian, English, Japanese, Italian, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, German and other languages. The infinite diversity of comics around the world is reflected in our collection, with different traditions represented:

• Asian comics (manga, manhwa)
• American comics and graphic novels
• European comics
• Russian comics
• Comics and visual culture history and theory

We accept donated comics; we're especially interested in books published in the Soviet times. The whole collection is available for reading in the Fiction and Arts Room.
