In 2018, the Year of Volunteer in Russia the Russian State Library for Young Adults (RSLYA) and the Association of Volunteer Centers, with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Library Association, launched the national contest for the best youth volunteer project in library.
A goal of the competition is to promote the development of voluntary cultural initiatives and to establish partnerships between cultural institutions and volunteer organizations through joint volunteer projects.
Winners of the competition are to be selected from three categories: Best Volunteer Library Project, Best Idea of Volunteer Library Project, and Best Personal Experience of Volunteering in Library.
All Russian libraries are invited to participate with a current volunteer project or a project implemented within the last three years. Young representatives of a library volunteer community, local volunteer center, or grassroots organization who has ideas in mind or have already worked with a library on such projects are also eligible to participate.
Winners will be announced at the Vth International Congress «Modern Youth in the Modern Library» which takes place on October 11-12, 2018 at the RSLYA; they will receive diplomas and prizes. All others will receive a certificate of participation.
Best practices for young library volunteers will be described in a special publication.
