Kipling R., The Second Jungle Book — 1978
Аннотация: The tales in The Jungle Book (1894) - as well as those in The Second Jungle Book (1895) - are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families, and communities. Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle. Other readers have interpreted the work as allegories of the politics and society of the time. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of Mowgli, an abandoned man cub who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other four stories are Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the story of a heroic mongoose, and Toomai of the Elephants, the tale of a young elephant-handler. As with much of Kipling's work, each of the stories is followed by a piece of verse.

Kipling R., All the Mowgli Stories — 1984
Аннотация: Of all the stories that Kipling wrote, the ones about Mowgli must be the most famous and the most enjoyed. Mowgli, the boy who was brought up in the Indian jungle by a wolf family, who ws taught by Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the Black Panther, and had adventures with many other animals, including his particular enemy, Shere Khan the Lame Tiger, has been a favourite with readers since the first story about him appeared in 1893. That first story was In the Rukh. It did not appear in either The jungle book or The second jungle book - Rudyard Kipling wrote other stories about Mowgli for those two famous books. All The Mowgli stories does contain it, along with the other tales.

Kipling R., Kim — 1978 (A Pan Classics)
Аннотация: Kim (Kimball O'Hara) is the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor Irish mother who have both died in poverty. Living a vagabond existence in India under British rule in the late 19th century, Kim earns his living by begging and running small errands on the streets of Lahore. He occasionally works for Mahbub Ali, a Pashtun horse trader who is one of the native operatives of the British secret service. Kim is so immersed in the local culture, few realise he is a white child, though he carries a packet of documents from his father entrusted to him by an Indian woman who cared for him. The story unfolds against the backdrop of The Great Game, the political conflict between Russia and Britain in Central Asia. It is set after the Second Afghan War which ended in 1881, but before the Third, probably in the period 1893 to 1898. The novel is notable for its detailed portrait of the people, culture, and varied religions of India.
