Mariaaglas est l'histoire d'une jeune fille qui, l'poque de la prohibition, se fait contrebandire. Antonine Maillet, qui puise exclusivement dans la tradition orale de son pays, rvle l un talent blouissant de conteuse et si l'on songe Rabelais, Faulkner, comment ne point voquer, ici, le Pergaud de La Guerre des boutons, le Marcel Aym de La Vouivre et, surtout, l'Emmanuelle de Giono, dont Mariaaglas, sans conteste, est la soeur ? Chronique truculente d'une communaut de pcheurs dont se dtache, gniale, la Marie Glas (Mariaaglas), un tel livre rvle aux Franais, qui n'en savaient rien, ou si peu, un des grands crivains de langues franaises.
