Diplomatic history explores the management of relations between nation-states through negotiations. From the American Revolution, and the diplomatic machinations of the First World War and Versailles, to the Iraq War, and diplomacy in the age of globalization, the management of power relationships has had an immense impact on our recent history. This book updates the former Diplomacy: A Very Short Introduction and illustrates international diplomacy in action at key historical junctures, highlighting the difficult demands that circumstances make on the practice of diplomats. Joseph M. Siracusa is Professor of Political History and International Diplomacy at Curtin University, Australia, and President Emeritus of Australia’s Council for the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. His books include Richard M. Nixon and European Integration: A Reappraisal (2018).
