This book, which is dedicated to the humanitarian work of Diana, Princess of Wales, has been authorized by The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and by the Estate of the late Princess. The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was set up in September 1997, just days after the Princess’s tragic death. It seeks to create a living memorial to the Princess, by giving recognition and support to people living on the margins of society and helping them change their lives. Since it began, the Memorial Fund has pledged over ?50 million to over 300 organizations, giving grants to charities in the UK and overseas and using its profile to speak out on issues of the day. It continues, for example, to champion the needs of people whose lives are devastated by landmines and other explosive remnants of war. In Africa, it helps to bring care and dignity in death to those who are dying of HIV/AIDS and other life-limiting illnesses and to support their families, especially children, who are facing the loss of a loved one. In the UK the focus is on young people who are specially vulnerable or stigmatized. In all these cases, the humanitarian inspiration of the Princess continues to bring hope and make a difference to the lives of the most disadvantaged people.
