The Story of Jeon Woo-chi is an old Korean novel that covers the life of Jeon Woo-chi in the Joseon era. It tells us that the real-life figure Jeon learned Taoist magic, wrote poetry and plotted treason. The new comic Hi, Jeon Woo-chi has not turned the novel into a new medium but has only appropriated the magic-wielding main character. Just as other fantasy novels like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings have taken various themes from myths and legends of the West, Hi, Jeon Woo-chi has reinterpreted ideas from Korean legends and classics. The word —fantasy— often calls to mind online games: elaborate characters wield great swords and use magic to vanquish monsters. Hi, Jeon Woo-chi, however, is a fantasy for children with contents and illustrations that are familiar to young readers. The main character Seogi lives next door to a very old and strange-looking house. Nobody knows when the house was built or who lives in it. Some say that they have seen a child in strange garments or a large crane, while others say the house is haunted. Despite the rumors, no one is really interested in the house. Then one day Seogi meets Jeon Woo-chi at the mysterious house. From there, he flies to dreamland with Woo-chi, meets a fox that bewitches people and asks some questions to the old Granny Turtle who lives in the Taklamakan Desert.
