Irwin Y., Shiatzu. Japanese finger pressure for energy, sexual vitality and relief from tension and pain — 1987
Shiatzu, the product of 4000 years of Oriental medicine, therapy and philosophy, is coming to be more and more widely used in the West, and should have wide appeal for all those interested in naturally effective ways of achieving physical and mental well-being and relief from common ailments, as well as those interested in the practical application of Oriental philosophies. The Japanese technique of Shiatzu is derived from the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture, introduced to Japan some 2000 years ago. In shiatzu, finger, thumb and palm pressure is applied to the 657 points that the Chinese penetrate with gold and silver needles. Shiatzu and accupuncture are therefore closely allied, both seeking to bring the whole body into balance with itself, and with its environment. The difference between the two techniques is that acupuncture is primarily a way to treat ailments, while Shiatzu's main function is to maintain health, increase vitality, and promote well-being.
