Драйзер Т., Дженни Герхардт — 2025 (Элегантная классика)
Аннотация: «Дженни Герхардт» — второй роман классика американской литературы Теодора Драйзера, выпущенный через одиннадцать лет после «Сестры Керри». И если дебютную книгу Драйзера пуритански настроенная публика и критики встретили крайне враждебно, обвинив писателя в безнравственности, то по отношению к «Дженни Герхардт» хранили надменное молчание. Видимо, реалистичная картина жизни бедной и наивной девушки для жаждущих торжества «американской мечты» читателей оказалась слишком сильным ударом. Значительно позже достоинства «Дженни Герхардт» и самого Драйзера все же признали. Американская академия искусств и литературы вручила ему Почетную золотую медаль за выдающиеся достижения в области искусства и литературы. Роман напечатали в 1911 году, тогда редакторы журнала Harpers сильно изменили текст перед публикацией, они посчитали, что в тексте есть непристойности по тогдашним временам и критика религии.
